What Does a Facelift Treat?

A facelift is a procedure that can treat many of the signs of aging such as loose or sagging skin, wrinkles, creases, loss of muscle tone, and displaced fat. However, there are some conditions that a facelift cannot correct, such as a visibly aged eye area or drooping brows. For these conditions, you might want to consider eyelid surgery or a brow lift. You can discuss the possibility of paired procedures with Dr. Jejurikar during your consultation.

If you’re not ready for surgery, you may want to try some of the nonsurgical procedures that Dr. Jejurikar performs. For example, BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, and chemical peels can all provide distinct (although temporary) improvement. In fact, many facelift patients initially choose some of these nonsurgical treatments before committing to a surgical procedure.

The Facelift Procedure

Dr. Jejurikar has the skill and experience to personalize a procedure to fit your specific needs. Depending upon the amount of correction you’d like and the areas that trouble you the most, there are several incision locations that he may use. To achieve maximum correction, he will probably use an incision that begins in the hairline at your temples and ends in the lower scalp. Another option is to use a smaller incision that begins lower on the temples. If you’d also like to correct sagging jowls, Dr. Jejurikar may use an incision that begins in front of the earlobe and ends in the lower scalp.

Whichever incision pattern Dr. Jejurikar chooses to use for your facelift, he will use it to reposition tissue, lift muscles, and remove excess skin. He may also remove excess fat deposits using liposuction and replace lost volume using fat grafting.

Facelift Recovery & Results

After your procedure you will need to follow Dr. Jejurikar’s instructions for a complete recovery and best results. You will probably see some residual swelling for several weeks, but should be able to return to work within 7 to 10 days. In order to minimize the appearance of scars and to slow further aging, it is essential to always wear sunscreen.

When you are fully recovered, you will see a younger-looking face with smoother, tighter skin. You’ll still look like yourself, only naturally refreshed and more vibrant.
