When a woman begins her search for a plastic surgeon to perform breast enhancement surgery, it can be hard to know where to start. There are many surgeons in Chicago offering breast augmentation. Some have exceptional training and credentials, along with years of experience. Others, however, are not board-certified plastic surgeons and are not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
So what’s the best way to find a qualified plastic surgeon? I suggest you look into websites that publish reviews written by actual patients, such as Vitals.com, RealSelf.com, or Yelp. If you don’t have a personal friend or family member who can refer you to a plastic surgeon, you can find advice from actual patients on review sites. Not only can you read about patients’ experiences, but you can also learn more about the surgeon’s background and qualifications. For example, on my Vitals.com site, you can find out not just where I attended medical school, but also see the hospitals where I have plastic surgery privileges.
However, it’s important not to rely solely on review sites. Ideally, after narrowing your search, you will look at a surgeon’s website to get a better understanding of the various techniques he or she offers. It’s also important to ensure your surgeon is certified as a plastic surgeon by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. Some doctors call themselves “board-certified”, but their certification may be for “cosmetic surgery.” The “American Board of Cosmetic Surgery”, in fact, is not even a legitimate board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists.
Ultimately, it’s best to schedule a few consultations with the doctors who are your top choices once you’ve checked out reviews and verified credentials. After the consultation, you should be confident that the surgeon you select is the right one for you.
