A Popular Plastic Surgery Procedure for Men

Women are not alone when seeking plastic surgery in Chicago. Men turn to cosmetic procedures to sculpt their bodies as well. One popular procedure among men who come to my practice is breast reduction. Breast reduction is recommended for men who suffer from gynecomastia – abnormal enlargement of the male breast.

About Gynecomastia

Men with gynecomastia are usually bothered by the appearance of feminine-looking breasts. This can result from genetic factors, hormonal shifts, illness or even drug use. Gynecomastia cannot be corrected through diet and exercise alone. Surgery is necessary for obtaining a flat, masculine-looking chest.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

A male breast reduction typically requires liposuction, skin excision or a combination of both, depending on whether excess fat or fibroglandular breast tissue is responsible for the breast enlargement. Many patients can usually benefit from liposuction alone. Those patients with extra skin and fibrous breast tissue, however, will need to have it surgically removed.

Can You Benefit?

If you have been unsuccessful in achieving a flatter chest through diet and exercise, and you are at an appropriate weight, you may be a good candidate for male breast reduction. Gynecomastia treatment can give you the confidence you need to enjoy the activities you love without embarrassment.

After my breast cancer diagnosis in July of 2011 and subsequent mastectomy, Dr. Jejurikar agreed to perform surgical reconstruction of my breast. The results were amazing. My husband and I are so pleased with the outcome. I would strongly recommend Dr. “J” to anyone considering reconstruction surgery. He explained the procedure and what to expect, including any questions I may have had. He is the “BEST” in my opinion. Thank you, Dr. “J.”
